Do you really need a lawyer?

In this and future blogs, I will address why it is VITAL for you to have a PROFESSIONAL, EXPERIENCED ATTORNEY working for you, and why the sooner you get a great attorney, the better it will turn out for you and your family!

“WHO NEEDS A LAWYER?”

The short answer: “Everyone!” As Abraham Lincoln, a great trial attorney (and awesome president), famously said: “A person who represents himself has a fool for a client.” Truer words were never spoken.

When you are in an accident, before you can say “emergency room,” the other person’s insurance company is working full time, with professionally trained specialists, to do everything possible to REDUCE the amount of money you are able to receive for your damages. They have “adjusters” who handle your claims. The dictionary defines adjuster as, “one who moves or changes (something) so as to be in a more desired condition.” To the insurance company, you are not a person, you are a “Claim Number.” If you don’t believe me, call the insurance adjuster about your claim. The adjuster won’t ask for your name, they will ask for your Claim Number.

When you suffer damages in an accident, your claim has a value, but you can’t look up that value on the internet or at a store. There are so many factors that determine the value of your claim, and the insurance company adjusters who receive extensive training on how to determine that value. Believe me, they have NO interest in sharing that information with you. Their job is to “adjust” your claim’s value DOWN to their financial advantage, not yours.

A professional, experienced personal injury attorney, on the other hand, has the knowledge to properly value your individual claim, and the ability and experience to be able to convince the adjuster of the TRUE AND FAIR value of your claim, TO “adjust” your claim UP. In doing their job, attorneys are not “greedy;” they simply are holding the insurance company financially accountable for the damages you have suffered.
